A range of experts and executives have heralded the opening of Dubai International Cricket Stadium, claiming it to be one of the world’s top venues in the sport and well suited for other events.

Following the success of the international matches between Australia and Pakistan held last month, decision-makers in the local sporting industry have praised the stadium and are looking forward to the future.

“The new Dubai International Cricket Stadium is just what is needed to meet the needs of today’s fans, VIPs, broadcasters, the corporate community, and the athletes themselves. It is comfortable, with great sight lines, and is a world-class venue to entertain important customers,” said IMG Middle East managing director Greg Sproule.

His view was seconded by AEG Middle East managing director Thomas Oveson: “Having seen the venue almost at capacity it is obvious what a difference a purpose-built venue makes – whether for a sporting or entertainment event,” he said.

Dubai Sports City (DSC) management indicated that the 25,000 seater stadium would be used for a variety of events. “We are in conversations with major music and sports promoters to facilitate a full calendar of entertainment at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Dubai is the ideal location for a wide variety of entertainment, and we expect this venue will be in great demand,” said DSC Sports Business director of marketing Malcolm Thorpe.

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is the first of four stadiums to be completed, with a 60,000 capacity multi-purpose stadium for football, track and field, and rugby, a field hockey stadium capable of holding up to 5,000 spectators, and an indoor arena that will house 10,000 supporters for a range of sports including basketball, indoor hockey, volleyball, handball, netball and ice hockey.
