Last year’s burning issues of staff poaching and staff retention are no longer causing problems, say industry professionals.

Towers Rotana Dubai director of human resources Nicoleta Cucos said retention had become “less of a challenge lately”.

“Our turnover rate has significantly dropped [this year],” she said. “In the current climate, if staff see that you can offer what is the most important thing at the moment — job security — then that’s attractive.”

“It was down to the market over-boiling and there being so many new employers around,” she explained.

“Happily things are changing: last year we lost a lot of people to new job opportunities — they’d go somewhere for a bit more money or whatever. But this year that is not the case.”

RMAL Hospitality director of operations Simon Penhaligan added: “Many people left F&B during the boom time, for jobs in real estate and those sorts of companies.

“These people are actually banging on our doors now asking to come back; so we have been able to re-employ the good ones.”
