Consumers still enjoy speciality beverages. Consumers still enjoy speciality beverages.

The Middle East beverage market may be realigning itself with value-for-money, but consumer demand for health and fair trade products continue to generate strong revenues.

The region’s beverage market is enjoying continued growth thanks to consumers willing to pay for special beverages, according to Market Grounds export manager Jan Hermann.

The German firm, which supplies Middle East outlets with a selection of beverage brands and services, said its customers were still willing to spend on healthy or fair trade products.

“Health-consciousness is continuing to rise, while lifestyle and wellness are still important aspects too,” said Hermann.

“As a result, sustainability and fair-trade products have come more and more into focus.”

Hermann noted that the firm was seeing a trend which was “directly opposed” to more negative overtures coming from other foodstuff supplier industries.

“Even in times of an economic downturn, the sale of products — from our latest one&only brand, for example — has increased,” he added.

“The customer may be buying less, but in beverage terms they persist in granting themselves something special.”

Coffee Planet business development director Robert Jones said the up-swing in the beverage industry had helped the Dubai-based business grow.

Jones suggested the trend could be atributed to clients looking towards new value-for-money options.

“We have been very fortunate and have seen an upturn in sales this year; we feel it may be due to customers trading down from expensive high-street brands to a company like ours,” said Jones.

“We provide a quality product and compete with our up-market rivals by offering a much more reasonable price.”
