Authorities have hailed the success of the Sharjah Summer Breaks campaign, run by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, which attracted 110,00 visitors to the emirate between June 15 and August 15.

Hotel occupancy increased by 10% in July, while the number of visitors to hotels was up 12% on the previous month.

“The Sharjah Summer Breaks campaign proved to be very successful,” said SCTDA director general HE Mohamed A. Al Noman.

“The campaign helped increase the number of tourists visiting the emirate, with outstanding hotel services and enticing offers designed by the SCTDA to introduce visitors to Sharjah’s brilliant museums and to offer tourists an unforgettable family vacation experience.”

“Statistics issued by the SCTDA show that the number of hotel visitors in Sharjah increased by 12% from 98,911 visitors in June 2009 to 110,289 visitors in July 2009, while the number of room nights increased by 5%, from 109,558 to 115,182, and hotel occupancy increased by 10% to 68%, from the 58% recorded in June,” continued Al Noman.

“These figures clearly show the success of the summer campaign in increasing tourism flow into Sharjah.”

The director general of SCTDA added that these figures were particularly pleasing in light of the global financial crisis and the Swine Flu outbreak that had ravaged the tourism industry.
