Dubai could be on track to becoming the Las Vegas-style entertainment centre of the Middle East, according to one hospitality industry professional.
Speaking to Caterer Middle East magazine about the entertainment on offer in the region, Henry Dyer, managing director of Dish Catering and Events — the firm that catered Dubai Festival Centre’s recent dinner-theatre Spiegel Tent spectacular, House of Illusions — explained:
“Las Vegas is a great example of getting really big stars, great performers and musical acts, performing as part of a dinner show.
“And I would say Dubai could go down a similar kind of entertainment route — although of course with certain restrictions!
“But I can see those types of shows working really well here; perhaps better than the more sedate dinner-theatre or whatever that you might see in Europe,” he predicted.

“I don’t think we’ll see every hotel and restaurant in the Middle East offering cabaret-style entertainment for diners any time soon; and I don’t see every shopping centre having a House of Illusions concept. But I do think the dinner-show, cabaret-style idea could take off here.
“The Middle East, Dubai particularly, always wants something new and innovative [when it comes to entertainment],” Dyer noted.
“It needs to be very high-quality and to come at a decent price, as everyone is very cost-sensitive at the moment; and people here also love internationally-renowned acts.
“And the Las Vegas entertainment scene, where they’ve had performers like Siegfried and Roy and Céline Dion, is a great example of how successful that kind of concept can be.
“So I think there’s room for something like Las Vegas over this side of the world, and I think it’s something consumers would really go for,” Dyer concluded.

Why am I not surprised with the fact that something like this could take place here! With the way things are going around here, I highly doubt that the government would agree to cabaret style of dancing to be a part of the so called "entertainment" keeping in mind the respect to its culture here ...
