Lumita Stoican from Jumeirah Beach Hotel claimed the Fitness & Recreation Person of the Year and was praised by the judges for changing lives.

Supported by Technogym, the award was presented by area sales manager Emanuele Maltagliati.

Stoican faced stiff competition from four other nominees, including Ilie Popa from The Address Downtown Burj Dubai, Babu Mohan Das from InterContinental Muscat, Chris Denil from The Westin and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and Asela Jayaweera from InterContinental Doha.

However, despite Das and Jayaweera being Highly Commended nominees, Stoican was praised by the judges for her ability to bring about “significant and even life-changing improvements in guests’ and members’ health and wellbeing”.

Her impressive list of fitness qualifications and previous career as a nurse enabled Stoican to tailor unique programmes to clients, meaning there was an extremely high demand for her personal training sessions.

Stoican said, “This is the second year I was nominated, which I saw as an achievement in itself, but I feel very proud to win this year and be placed in the top five in the Middle East".
