Europe ranks ahead of the Middle East for the first time in 2009 in year to date occupancy figures released by Deloitte Analysis of selected STR global hotel performance data. 

With a rate of 61.6%, Europe pushed the Middle East into second place which registered 60.9% for the September period. 

The Middle East occupancy figure noted an 11% drop from the figures recorded in the same period 2008.

However,  a positive was to be found with the increase of RevPAR by 6.57% in September compared to August, reversing the trend noted in 2008. 

Despite the August to September rise in RevPAR, it came in 18% lower than the RevPAR for September 2008. 

However, Abu Dhabi only witnessed a 1% drop in RevPAR for the September period compared to 2008.
