Top chefs and restaurant operators around the world are on the edge of their seats, as the countdown began this week to the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2010.
The S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards and List is organised and compiled by Restaurant Magazine, and sponsored by S.Pellegrino.
Last year, the listing — which in fact ranks 100 restaurants — saw Reflet par Pierre Gagnaire, at Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City, enter at number 100: the sole representative from the Middle East region.

This year, the region will be looking to prove its culinary prowess with more spots in the reputable ranking.
The 2009 list saw Spain’s El Bulli retain the top spot for the fourth consecutive year, while Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck remained in second place.
Last year's countdown also garnered publicity when Gordon Ramsay’s landmark London outlet, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, dropped out of the list altogether after finishing 13th the year before.
The awards ceremony, now in its 9th year, will be held on Monday April 26 at the historic Guildhall in the City of London, while the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Guide will be available worldwide from April 27.
