Gulfood 2010 will see record attendance as the industry rallies following a difficult 2009, a speaker at the show’s conference has predicted.

Making the keynote speech at the inaugural Gulfood Conference, which launched yesterday, Dr Ashraf Ali Mahete, head of export market intelligence with the Dubai Export Development Corporation, commented: “Last year’s show was very successful. This year, as the global economy starts on the road to recovery, we expect this event to be even bigger.

“Gulfood is a sign of the confidence the industry has in the UAE,” he noted, adding that he was confident attendees would “learn a great deal” from the show’s first ever conference.

Following the conference’s theme of global trends, Mahete pointed out that the market today had become extremely diverse, reflecting consumer needs.

“The F&B industry today is not only about prices – it’s about value, design, packaging and many other elements, all of which are focused on at this year’s show,” he said.
