Oman tourism leaders will launch a new campaign next month in a bid to attract more holidaymakers from the UK and Europe to the country.

Oman Tourism Ministry, Oman Air and Muscat's four- and five-star hotels have devised the campaign to increase awareness of Oman as a holiday destination.

Funding to support the campaign will be provided by the ministry, Dr Rajiha bint Abdulameer bin Ali told Oman News Agency.

“The new summer campaign offers highly competitive six and seven day holiday packages, return air fares and accommodation under a single campaign banner. Packages will be common-rated across Europe in a further effort to attract more first-time visitors,” she said

“This is a clear step-up in industry capability that will lead to greater industry profitability.”

“The Ministry of Tourism will provide special funding to support the campaign. This will be used with travel companies that can at least match our support in terms of promotional spend, so overall promotional effort will be at least doubled,” she said.

Oman Air said it will allocate 12,000 seats to the campaign, its largest ever to a single campaign. The national carrier added three new European destinations to its roster last year, which is also predicted to help boost tourist numbers.

The campaign will be officially launched at ITB Berlin, Europe's largest travel show, and will run from April 12 to October 1, 2010.
