Government owned Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Co (ADNEC) said it plans to invest $953.2 million to build a convention centre in Al Ain to develop the city into a business destination.

Al Ain, about 160 km (100 miles) from Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, is less commercial and known for its greenery.

Shankland Cox are the architects of the project that will be built in phases and local firm Al Fara'a General Contracting is the contractor for phase one, the statement said.

ADNEC is also building the $2.1 billion Capital Gate project in Abu Dhabi, a business and residential district next to the capital's exhibition centre.
