German hotel company Iberotel has taken over the management of a 50-storey property on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, formerly operated by Angsana.

Iberotel and Dorfhotel head of marketing and sales Angela Fast confirmed that the new flag was in place.

She said that the Iberotel Emirates Grand Hotel was already in soft opening, with a view to officially launching "by August 31".

The contract for the Angsana Hotel and Suites, part of the Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts portfolio, was terminated last year in an “amicable” agreement with building owner Damas Hotels LLC.

Damas sold the building that housed the hotel, which was reported to have been bought for AED 650 million by an Emirati.

The new owners have appointed Iberotel to manage the tower, which marks the chain’s first entrance into the Dubai hotel market.

The Iberotel Emirates Grand Hotel is a four-star property featuring 409 rooms and suites, including 123 two-bedroom suites featuring master king or queen bedroom, a separate twin bedroom, furnished living room, working, kitchen and dining areas.

Facilities include a 290m² gym, a tennis court, a roof top outdoor swimming pool and a spa on the 45th floor.

Thirty-two of the luxury units have been taken on by Emirates Vacation Club, a member of Interval International, a global network for timeshare companies.

Iberotel has also just soft opened its second hotel in Fujairah, the Iberotel Concorde Hotel Fujairah. Again, this will officially launch by August 31.

It will join the five-star Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah, managed by Iberotel.

Fast said: “Guests can combine a stay at the Iberotel Emirates Grand Hotel with a few days at the Iberotel Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort in the nearby emirate of Fujairah. This sister resort will offer a brief spell of tranquillity as an antidote to the hustle, bustle and vibrancy of Dubai”.
