Dubai is seeing an increase in meetings and incentive business during the summer period this year.

“The summer is usually dead for MICE,” said Richard Devadasan, manager, MICE, SNTTA Emir Tours. “But this year we are looking at a good summer, much more than expected.”

He said groups were attracted to Dubai in the summer by the cut price hotel rates.

“Back in February we started a concept called ‘last minute meetings’ and started targeting our repeat corporates where we got them to realise how cheap and economically sensible it was for them have meetings in Dubai in the summer months.

“A lot of clients  wanted to stay at the Raffles or the Burj al Arab and they couldn’t afford it during season time and when they realised the difference in rates is a good 30 / 40 percent they thought lets do it – its paid off well, that’s what keeping us busy during the summer months.”

Devadasan said that searing summer temperatures were not too proving too much of a barrier to clients. “You are locked up in your conference room all day and then in the evening when you do activities its all air conditioned. It’s not so bad.”
