Park Inn Muscat is the first hotel in Oman and the first property in the Rezidor Hotel Group portfolio worldwide to secure the Green Globe stamp of approval.

Park Inn Muscat chief engineer Sushant Pawar said: “We opted to undergo the Green Globe certification process as part of our ‘Responsible Business’ actions. We chose this internationally-recognized brand for its credibility and the fact that it represents the best in environmental responsibility.

“This year we plan to place more focus on our environmental and social responsibilities,” he added.

The hotel is only the second in the Middle East to achieve this international accolade for environmental performance, following the certification of The Palace — The Old Town in Dubai by Green Globe earlier this year.

The Palace hotel operator, The Address Hotels and Resorts, is now striving to achieve Green Globe status for its other properties, according to The Palace general manager Jason Harding.

Also in Dubai, the general manager of Southern Sun-managed Qamardeen hotel, John Aritho, said the next step in the property’s eco-strategy was to aim for Green Globe certification.

The Green Globe logo is associated with companies which aim to constantly improve their environmental performance through recycling, minimising waste, saving energy, and many other ways.

In addition, the companies will also have developed social programmes that bring direct benefits to their local community, provide extra-curricular training or skills, or engage in similar welfare-based activities.
