“You can learn from each other in terms of best practice and it is great that it brings in focus issues that relate to the market on a day to day basis,” he said.
“It’s really learning from each other and understanding we are not only competitors, but we need to work together as competitors because are marketing one destination.”
Cora Stuart, general manager of Media One Hotel said the event was “great”.
“A lot of time you’re in operations and you don’t take the time to really think and share ideas on a platform like this, and I think that Hotelier Middle East has given us a good opportunity to start creating relationships and being able to ask questions about things we don’t usually think about or share,” she asserted.
Hotelier Middle East editor Louise Oakley said she was “thrilled” with the reaction from the attendees.
“From the moment we launched the concept of the GM debate we knew we had stumbled on something that was highly desired by the industry,” she said.
“The event was fully booked within weeks and the response has been superb — people are already talking about the next one and how we can maximise the learning and networking experience.”
Plans are already in place to take the event to Saudi Arabia in December and involve more general managers from across the GCC.
