Daniel Blais from Fairmont Bab Al Bahr was presented by MMI with Hotelier Middle East's Sommelier of the Year award on Thursday.
As Fairmont Bab Al Bahr’s head sommelier, Daniel Blais is responsible for six wine lists, across seven food outlets with 600 different labels of wine, many of which are high-end luxury vintages.
The judges singled him out for his breadth of knowledge, unparalleled passion and innovative wine tasting events, and noted his dedication in very quickly establishing one of the most diverse beverage collections in Abu Dhabi.

Blais said: "This means that it is time for the bubbles! But even if I am the head sommelier at the hotel there are 150 waiters who are all doing a great job. They are providing a great service and it is a great challenge every day."
Garth Beer, The Capital Club Dubai and Bhoopesh Pokhariya, Jumeirah Beach Hotel were both Highly Commended.
