A spokesperson stated: “Shaza Hotels are not sharia compliant. Shaza is a luxurious, modern lifestyle brand that embraces the culture and traditions of the region, allowing guests to be themselves and practice their rituals and routines”.

The group has “created new products and services that will offer a unique experience to guests enabling them to be captivated by hospitality” and promises to respect the environment and contribute meaningfully to the local community.

Shaza hotels will primarily be located in the Middle East and North Africa, “from Morocco to Egypt and from Turkey to Iraq”.

“The secondary market of Shaza is the south of Asia, where the cultures of India and Indonesia fit with the Shaza culture. The company also aims to operate key properties in some European destinations which attract the Arab community, such as London and Geneva,” the spokesperson added.

The opening date of the Shaza hotel in Madinah will be announced in due course, but according to Hotelier’s sources, the hotel is in the pre-opening stages.

Coombs, who was formerly executive vice president and CFO at Kempinski, added: “Regional travel for families and business continues to grow, and we look forward to welcoming patrons to Shaza properties in the near future”.
