HAVE YOUR SAY-Is there an alternative to cutbacks?

Most companies would send their staff on unpaid leave or offer short time Does anyone know what is going on at the Mina Seyahi and Westin lately? The new management (who have only been in administration for the last 5 months) have run the hotels so badly since they came into power 4 months ago, their sales are drastically down because of poor planning and even poorer management. Last week they fired 190 staff, most of whom were hired under the wonderful old regime of the great Michael Scully ? a man of vision and who cared about his staff. The new managements plan is to get rid of these 190 loyal hard working people so that they can rehire new people at the end of the summer! Is it just me, or does no one else realize that in any other civilized country they would never ever be able to get away with this. Numerous people who are due to retire next year have just been told to leave. Disgusting! The Government need to seriously investigate these companies who defy basic human rights. The labour law needs to protect employees from scheming people like these; firing hard working, loyal men and women whose families depend on them; to just rehire new staff after the quite period ? Despicable to say the least!!

Unfortunately companies like this will do as they please until the labour laws in the United Arab Emirates change. One would have thought that an international organization like Starwood has HR Policies & Procedures in place that would protect their employees against such discriminatory behaviors. (Retrenching one day, then hiring the next...?) I would certainly not work for this type of organization.
