How about looking for staff in the Pacific Island region.... I have seen first hand that Fiji and Samoa as two examples produce great workers with smiles and happy attitudes. Dean Sanders. www.service-superstars.blogspot.com

Hi Ms. Cora, Being a GM how you can be unfamiliar with some potential professionals from Indonesia, Pakistan & Japan since I got potentials from there. I agree as market is growing and somehow difficult to find stable people, to avoid this shortage what we have to do is to "Do Not Discriminate" which unfortunately is a part of our daily lives now. From Indonesia we can find good line staff and F&B Managers as well, while Japan is a good market for all levels except GM's. From Pakistan you can fin some good Managers with international experience, advantage of getting Indonesian & Pakistani is that they are open to all location and are very stable in one place. Since they prefer to remain in international market, very fiew of them can be found in their home towns otherwise can best be recruited from Canada, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Macao, Qatar etc (key hospitality destinations). I hope you may agree with my opinions, but I must say we have to leave discrimination. Thank you. Zeena Regional Director (Proud to be a member of Marriott Family)

Setting up satellite training centres is a good idea but who pays for the training. The potential workers dont have the funds asnd they are only interested in getting the job.We set up a centre in India but found it very difficult to operate. Rob MacLean NHI, Oman
