Dubai-based Jebel Ali International Hotels is embarking on a major re-development and expansion drive at its resorts in Dubai.

Regional general manager, David Thomson explained that Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa would undergo a refurbishment project this summer, with 76 keys added to the Palm Tree Court area of the resort. Around US$ 40.8 million (AED 150 million) has been earmarked for the refurbishment project.

There are also plans to build another hotel at the resort – a four-star property called The Gallery.

“It’s a 128 acre site and has huge potential,” said Thomson. “Going forward we plan to add a few more hotels to the resort. We have four full-sized sports pitches at the resort, so a lot of international sports teams stay and train with us. And as a result of that there is demand for mid-priced accommodation which we are looking at adding so we can service the teams a lot better. We plan to add around 150 / 200 rooms over the coming five years.”

Plans are also being finalised for the redevelopment of the company’s mountain retreat Hatta Fort Hotel, which Thomson said will add “some higher-end inventory very much focusing on wellbeing and reenergizing”.

Jebel Ali International Hotels will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.
