Minor Hotels Group has launched a new hotel brand, Avani Hotels & Resorts, which will operate in Asia, Oceana, the Middle East and Africa.

The first hotel to appear under this banner is the beach resort Avani Bentota on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, which officially opens later this year.

According to Minor, the word Avani stems from the Sanskrit word for ‘earth’, and symbolise simplicity and a ‘grounded personality’.

Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotel Group, Avani claimed that the new branding draws upon Minor’s Asian heritage and understanding of the local hospitality market.

A second Avani resort will open in Sri Lanka in Kalutara with 105 rooms, after which the group plans to open additional brands in Asia, Australia, the Indian Ocean, Middle East and Africa. Thai-based Minor also owns the five-star Anantara brand.

“The launch of Avani serves as a two edged sword in Minor’s expansion roll out,” said Rajakarier.
