A female receptionist and a male watchman were found dead at the Jeff K. Hotel where they worked in Eldoret, western Kenya.

Their badly-mutilated bodies were discovered in the morning by co-workers, according to reports on Kenya news portal The Standard.

"We found the main entrance (to the lodging) locked so we used the back entrance which was surprisingly open, only to find the shocking scene," said a distraught worker.

Sources at the scene said the killers could have been a gang interested in the collections for room bookings at the hotel.

"This is not the first time it has happened, the hotel has been raided before. Maybe because of the location of the reception which is not secured," said a worker at the building.

Police were treating the murders seriously and expressed confidence that they would arrest those behind the crime, said a spokesperson.
