Asela Jayaweera from the InterContinental Doha took home the Fitness & Recreation Person of the Year award, sponsored by Technogym, at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2011 last night
He particularly impressed judges with his ability to drive revenue, instigate development projects and create an unparalleled guest experience. He was also praised for creating links between the hotel and the local community.
Jayaweera was thrilled at receiving the award. When asked about what drives him to come up with new initiatives for the hotel, he said: “There are a lot of people in the Gulf region they want to do active things, but they just need a push. You have to provide new facilities and opportunities to interest them and get them into the healthy lifestyle. It’s what keeps me going.”
