Ayeda Al Hamoor from the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray has triumphed at the Hotelier Middle East Awards, securing HR Person of the Year award 2011.

Middle East HR managers must play more than one role in the Middle East : they are housing officers, government go-betweens, financial advisors and, most importantly, mothers and fathers.

Shocked and delighted at her win, Ayeda Al Hamoor said: "I’m really excited because when I feel that I won this award, it ‘s a reward for the UAE government as well, because I’m from the UAE and this is the first time that a UAE national would win such an award, especially in the hotel industry."

As one of the very few Emirati women in the industry, Al Hamoor commented on how tough it can be: "[It requires] dedication, commitment, and being adaptable. Being in a hotel industry is not easy with long working hours, no social life – but this is home and this is how I feel it, and I love working with Jumeirah."

Adil Khadiri Yazami from Dar Al Iman Intercontinental Hotel, Saudi Arabia was highly commended in this category.
