Crowne Plaza Bahrain's Abdulkareem Muradi, a humble security guard, has been named Hotelier Middle East's Unsung Hero of the Year for 2011.

The Unsung Hero award celebrates the most dedicated and hardworking individual in a hotel who contributes the most selflessly, but rarely makes into the spotlight.

Judges acclaimed Muradi's persevance and spirit, overcoming physical disabilities to rise through the ranks, receiving commendations from the Bahraini Ministry of Labour and feted by his colleagues as a true pleasure to work with.

The awestruck audience at last night's ceremony gave a standing ovation when  Muradi's name was called as winner of the Unsung Hero 2011 award - a Hotelier Awards' first!

Overjoyed at his win, Abdul Kareem Muradi said: "I don’t know what to say but I am too happy to speak. This is the first time I have won an award like this. I would like to thank Sheikh Khalifa Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohamed Al Rashid Al Maktoum, the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Crown Plaza. "

Two of the nominees further received highly commended status for this award: Teddu Rajeshwar from the Movenpick Hotel Deira, and Jennie Villar from the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, for their sterling efforts.
