Sheraton Cairo Hotel, Towers & Casino has closed for an extensive renovation. 

The hotel is expected to reopen at the "end of summer 2012", a hotel spokesperson told Hotelier Middle East. 

Starwood's other properties in Cairo, Le Meridien Pyramids, Le Meridien Heliopolis and Sheraton Dream, remain open despite a dramatic slump in tourism to the Egyptian capital following the Arab Spring.

Recent elections have caused more riots in Cairo over the last few days with thousands injured, according to media reports. 

Last month, Hotelier Middle East reported two of Starwood's other GCC properties had or were due to close for renovations, including the Sheraton Doha and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi in Dubai.
