A new nine-hole floodlit golf course is set for a soft opening in March at Meydan City in Dubai.

The course has been designed by renowned golf course-architect Peter Harradine and users will not need to pay membership fees, instead implementing a pay-to-play system.

Saeed H Al Tayer, Meydan chairman of the board and CEO, said: “This project is a key strategic initiative in the overall development of Meydan as a centre for leisure and business. The developments of Meydan complement one another to feature an enticing alignment of work, leisure and lifestyle.”

The project has been developed by Meydan Group and golf specialist Troon, which will manage the site.

It will be located in what will be Meydan City, next to the Meydan Racecourse – home to the Dubai World Cup.

It is 10 minutes’ drive from the Downtown Burj Dubai area, stretching more than 3700 yards, and features several natural lakes, which will come into play on some approaches.

Bruce Glasco, senior vice president, managing director of Troon Golf International Operations, added: “This is certainly a bold and exciting move from Meydan Group and we are positive that this type of golf option will be embraced by golfers in Dubai.

“Fresh initiatives and modern developments are key in stimulating the frequency and uptake of the game and by exposing golfers to the quality of condition and service Troon is renowned for, we are confident in playing our part in growing the game at a domestic level as well as stimulating interest from the international inbound tourist.”
