Meydan Group has partnered with Tennis 360 for the managing and operation of its Meydan Tennis Academy, located in Meydan City, adjacent to the Meydan Hotel.

The academy is open to both members, as well as those preferring to ‘pay to play’, and includes seven courts. It also features a five-a-side football court, as well as a soon-to-open court for padel tennis, a sport popular in Spain and South America, which is a mix of tennis and squash.

Each tennis court implements plexicushion, a mix of latex, rubber and plastic, which is similar to the surfaces used in the Australian Open. They will also be floodlit, allowing their use at night.

The Tennis 360 training team is made up of coaches from Europe, the USA and Australia — some of whom were ATP/WTA players previously. They have two other locations in Dubai – the American School of Dubai and at Shangri-La Hotel.

Mohammad Al Khayat, commercial director of Meydan, said: “Our partnership with Tennis 360 will further promote the great sport of tennis to the people of Dubai and the UAE, while also making Meydan a sports and leisure destination for international guests. The expertise and passion of the Tennis 360 team will bring success to the Meydan Tennis Academy and to all the players that learn and train there.”

Gwen Sproule, business development director of Tennis 360, said: “Our comprehensive approach to tennis, teamed with the world-class facilities and spectacular setting of the Meydan Tennis Academy, will allow us to attract a greater range of tennis enthusiasts.

“We are committed to tennis and the Emirati public. Our goal is to increase Emirati participation in the sport and to nurture and strengthen national talent for a top 500 ranking on the ATP/WTA tour within the time frame of 7 to 10 years. This relationship and facility will be a great benefit in achieving that goal,” he added.
