The Victoria State Government of Australia is at the head of a ‘super trade mission’ comprising 75 F&B companies exhibiting at Gulfood 2013.

The 'mission' is expected to generate 700 buyer/distributor meetings and lead to an increase on the AED 790 million (US $215m) of trade generated at Gulfood last year.

Australia’s Victoria state food and beverage companies are estimated to produce 29% of Australia’s total food and beverage exports from 3% of the country’s total arable land, including 65% of Australia’s total diary production and 85% of total dairy exports.

“Forty percent of the companies we’ve brought to Gulfood 2013 have never exported to the UAE before, while 25% are completely new to the export market," said the Victoria State Government minister for agriculture, food security and water Peter Walsh.

"We have a large number of small-to-medium enterprises that are growing and want to expand into this market, so from a state government point of view we want to bring them over, let them engage with the local market here and create long term business and relationships rather than just one of deals,” he added.

The Victoria State government has had a strong trade relationship with the Middle Eat since opening its first trade office in Dubai in 1997, with the market becoming the third largest importer of Victoria State produce in the world with a total value of AED 3.77 billion ($1 billion) per year.
