Oman will move its weekend to Friday and Saturday, bringing it into line with other Gulf countries, from May 1.
Religious and national holidays also will be standardised across the public and private sectors for the first time, according to a statement issued by the Council of Ministers.
Sultan Qaboos Bin Said said the decision would “strengthen family and social ties” and improve the “psychological stability [of] all employees”.

Changing the weekend also would make it easier to deal with the rest of the world on economic matters, particularly banking, commercial transactions and imports and exports.
Omani weekends had been Thursday to Friday.
Saudi Arabia remains the only Gulf nation to have its weekend Thursday to Friday.
