Bahrain’s five-star hotels report strong attendance performance for the Bahrain Grand Prix despite continued controversy over the F1 race.

Manama-based Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa claim high occupancy performance for the three-day event, despite violent protests that have threatened to stall the F1 gathering, due to finish today.

Both five-star resorts report seizing on the opportunities presented by the Bahrain Grand Prix. Ritz-Carlton completed a renovation project involving three of its restaurants in time for the race, while Kempinski Bahrain hosted a specialist F1 Artist Exhibition alongside “special F1 hotel packages and F&B promotions.”

“The Grand Prix has certainly had a positive business affect and it’s great to see how everyone is working together to create a momentum to make this event a big success,” said Ritz Carlton’s general manager, Mark Neukomm.

Kempinski’s director of sales & marketing, Ibrahim Korkut, claims to have welcomed both GCC and European visitors for the F1 extravaganza, although Korkut admitted that occupancy was, “a little lower than anticipated”.

According to recent media reports, the five-star Grand Prix experience is not shared by many of the country’s four-star properties. Some reportedly cut room rates in an attempt to drive sales while others are cited to have felt snubbed by F1 organisers despite investing in their properties in preparation for the F1 race.
