InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) officially opened its Crowne Plaza Duqm property yesterday, cementing its presence in Oman.

The beachfront property is located close to the rapidly expanding port and dry dock at Duqm – a major development area led by the Department of Tourism which is expected to be a springboard for growth in Oman and establish the region as a business destination – in addition to Duqm International Airport, which is anticipated to open in 2014.

It joins three existing Crowne Plaza hotels in Oman cities – Muscat, Sohar and Salalah – in addition to the InterContinental Muscat.

Pascal Gauvin, COO, India, Middle East and Africa for IHG, said: “Thanks to its focus on growing its travel tourism industry, Oman continues to be an important market for us in the Middle East.”

The 213-key property which including 21 suites is served by the hotel’s outdoor pool area, fitness centre and five restaurants and lounges.

Its 780 sq m business and meeting facilities include an Event Centre, which boasts two ballrooms and one boardroom. The Event Centre also comprises a business centre and four separate meeting rooms.

Two new hotels, InterContinental Muscat Hills and Holiday Inn Muscat Airport are currently in the development pipeline.
