In a worldwide initiative, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), recently held week-long engagement activities ‘Celebrating Service’ with over 345,000 employees in more than 4000 hotels and offices.

Activities on the agenda included heads of departments and general managers serving breakfasts and lunches to thank staff for their hard work, plus ‘changing hats’ days in which HODs went back to the floor to serve guests.

The program also treated staff to prize giving and Long Service Awards ceremonies, fun days at Yas Waterworld and beach resorts, pool parties, BBQs and dinners for employees and their families.

Added to the list were bring-your-kids to work days, surprise red carpet welcome receptions for staff arriving at work, spa treatments, goodie bags and giveaways, and Celebrate Service Week hampers delivered to staff accommodation.

In the UAE, more than 4126 colleagues from IHG’s Regional Office and all 18 hotels were involved in the initiative.

Vice President, Human Resources, Asia, Middle East and Africa, Zareena Brown, said: “Our people are at the heart of our business and bring our brands to life, which is why Celebrate Service week is a hugely important date on the IHG calendar.

“It is a time when we can celebrate great service and thank the 43,000 colleagues across Asia, Middle East and Africa for the outstanding job they do everyday across our family of brands.”

A central Google Site was created for IHG staff to look through the details of activities planned for them, sign up and post pictures. The site attracted almost 2000 page views and 15 minutes average time spent on the site, demonstrating the high levels of internal engagement.

Celebrate Service was created in 2010 to acknowledge the group’s front-line teams role in delivering service.
