Southern Area Development Company (SADC) has signed an agreement to lease, operate and manage hotel facilities on Bahrain’s Hawar Islands, including a Best Western International hotel which is expected to be operational by the end of 2013.

 

In an agreement with VK Universal Property Management Company, SADC outlined the work to be carried out, with phase one to include the renovation of existing facilities including the refurbishment of hotel facilities, upgrading the serviced apartment buildings, and cleaning and modifying the hotel beach. Phase two of the redevelopment will include an additional hotel wing with a capacity of 100 keys will be constructed along with a seafood restaurant and two multipurpose halls.

SADC chairman Sabah Al Moayyed said: “We are committed to the rejuvenation of tourist facilities across Hawar Islands and the Southern Region of the Kingdom, in cooperation with reputed and experienced industry experts. We are certain that this project will support Hawar Islands’ unique offerings and attract more tourists in the future, ultimately benefiting the Kingdom’s standing as a tourist destination.”

Other facilities at the hotel will include a gym, meeting rooms, restaurants, swimming pools and access to beach and water sports facilities.

VKL Group chairman and managing director Varghese Kurian commented: “Hawar Islands are a beautiful group of islands recognised as a world heritage site due to the island’s unique environment, which attracts tourists for the ambience, water sports, local culture and the relaxed friendly atmosphere. We are committed to promoting tourism opportunities for families, individuals and corporates in unique settings such as these, and VK Universal will work with SADC to draw on the strengths of both organisations to build and promote sustainable tourism ventures.”
