The UAE National Lifeguard Championship will host 23 teams for its eighth annual competition, set to take place on December 15, 2013 at the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, Dubai.

Teams, including the defending champion hosts, will compete in a series of beach-related activities including various runs, swims and mock-casualty pickups in a competition that aims to hone local lifeguards’ skills.

UAE NLC founder Patrick Antaki said: “Although the emphasis is primarily on lifeguard participation and competition, the NLC aims to promote water safety education and spread the message of water and beach safety throughout the UAE. With the existence of strong sea currents, rising beach visitors and the increase in the number of swimming pools across the country, water safety awareness is of critical importance.”
