Golden Tulip Hotels Suites and Resorts MENA president Amine Moukarzel has said the hotel group plans to open 24 new hotels in the region over the next two years.
Speaking to exclusively Hotelier Middle East, Moukarzel said: “We aim, in 2014 and 2015, to open one hotel every month on average, and we are very much on track. In one month we may open three, and in one quarter we may open three.”
“The ambition is to see the company reaching 100 hotels from 50 of what we have today and yet 70 in the region,” he added.
Moukarzel also revealed the group will be closing up to five hotels over the next two years.

“I will be losing three to five hotels in the next 24 months due to either contracts expiring or hotels not being renovated or up to par with the standard hotel classification requirement. And this is an enhancement of the brand trust that our customer wants to see. My customers do not wish to have a downgraded property – they do not want to have a low level of a hotel based on the expectation of the brand. I don’t want to see a hotel that is not properly perceived, so this is why some hotels will be closed,” he explained.
“Also, some hotels’ contracts will expire and some owners do not wish to renew or they wish to change the utilisation of the asset or wish to manage it themselves,” he added.
