Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, Middle East & Africa has appointed a new regional vice president and director of human resources to support aggressive expansion plans in the region and drive performance.

Thomas Tapken, who has 30 years’ hospitality management experience at hotels across the globe, has been appointed vice president - operations for the Middle East & Africa.

Ian Handy takes on the role of director of human resources for the region, bringing with him 20 years of experience working in the hospitality industry for major brands in the UAE and the UK.

Millennium & Copthorne MEA president & CEO Ali Hamad Lahkraim Alzaabi said: “We are delighted to welcome Thomas and Ian on board. Thomas brings a level of expertise and skills, which are critical both to our expansion plans and our existing operations. Tapken will provide leadership and strategic direction for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels in the MEA region with a key objective of maximising growth and profit while maintaining standards across the group’s regional portfolio.

Handy’s appointment will drive forward the group’s ambition of recruiting 2500 + employees over the next 15 months to support new openings. He will be responsible for leading the human resources and training function for the region.
Both positions are effective from January 2014 and demonstrate the group’s continued development of the Dubai-based regional office team.
