Marriott International has set out the roadmap to significantly expanding its global portfolio of luxury and lifestyle brands, with plans to add more than 200 projects over the next three years.

The properties account for almost 25% of the company’s system-wide pipeline and will reflect over $15 billion of investment by the company’s owners and franchisees.

As it stands, the company’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio currently includes 449 hotels across eight brands. “The luxury and lifestyle category is stronger than ever and we see demand continuing to rise worldwide,” said president and CEO Arne Sorenson.

“Next generation travellers are poised to comprise more than 60% of our business over the next four years, and already represent a broad spectrum of diverse cultures and lifestyles that view travel as an important way to enrich their lives. Our approach to the luxury and lifestyle segment embraces this trend and is shaping our development strategy.”

Marriott had detailed the growth plans its luxury and lifestyle brand:

The Ritz-Carlton will add 15 more hotels between now and the end of 2016. This will include properties in Rabat (Morocco), Cairo (Egypt), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) and Tunis (Tunisia).

Edition hotels, a partnership with hotelier Ian Schrager, will open a property in Abu Dhabi next year, as well as in New York (USA), Miami (USA), ) Gurgaon (India), Sanya (China), Bangkok (Thailand) and West Hollywood (USA) between now and 2017.

JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts is on schedule to open 23 new hotels over the next two years, growing from 64 to 87 hotels in 29 countries by the end of 2016.

Autograph Collection, a portfolio of independent properties, has already reached the 60 hotel milestone in less than three years and 20 more are expected to join this year. Among them are The Algonquin Hotel in New York (USA) and the 15-room Kessler Canyon hunting lodge in the mountains of Colorado (USA).

Renaissance Hotels is on track to open nine hotels in 2014 and will have a total of 160 hotels in 37 countries by the end of the year.

AC Hotels by Marriott, a brand concept launched in Europe in 2011 as a joint venture with Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan, plans to open more than 30 hotels within the next three years throughout the USA and Latin America.

Moxy Hotels, aimed at the “next generation traveller”, will debut in Europe this September at Milan’s Malpensa Airport in Italy. The hotel brand combines stylish design and approachable service at a reasonable price and is set to open additional locations in key cities throughout Europe by the end of 2016. Early growth estimates predict the brand could reach 150 hotels within the next ten years.
