Starwood Hotels & Resorts has officially taken over a two-tower property which previously housed the Kempinski Grand and Ixir Hotel, reflagging it under the Le Meridien and Westin brands.

The property’s owner, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, earlier this year announced it would end its agreement with Kempinski in order to adopt a two-brand strategy similar to properties in Dubai.

In April, the owner signed an agreement with Starwood to take over the towers under the two brands.

A spokesperson for the complex confirmed to HotelierMiddleEast.com that the handover has been completed, with both hotels now fully operational.

Le Méridien Bahrain City Centre is a 260-room property while The Westin Bahrain City Centre has 200 rooms.

Sherif Darwish has come in as the acting general manager of the complex and the executive leadership team consists of a combination of new faces and people who worked in the property previously.
