Jumeirah Group has launched a new programme to train and fast track UAE nationals into general manager roles and other leadership positions within the company.

The UAE Future Leaders Programme is a five-year fast-track plan incorporating on-the-job learning, aimed at enabling participants to lead a hotel team.

According to Jumeirah Group, the new programme supports and encourages His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum‘s Dubai Vision of Tourism 2020, and will also help prepare the company for Expo 2020.

“Jumeirah, the leading employer of UAE nationals in the hotel sector, is proud to present the UAE Future Leaders Programme, which aims to increase the number of UAE National General Managers and senior executives," said Jumeirah Group President and CEO Gerald Lawless.

"This programme endorses the commitment of Dubai Holding, Jumeirah’s parent company, to develop high-potential UAE Nationals into leadership positions and offer them attractive careers in Dubai’s dynamic travel, tourism and hospitality industry.

“By having more UAE national senior executives, Jumeirah and Dubai Holding support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the targets which His Highness has set for tourism 2020.”

The first three years of the programme will immerse the participant into full hotel operations and support functions after which they will attend an internationally recognised general managers programme.

They will then be stationed in one of Jumeirah’s global properties running their own team, before taking on senior role in the fifth year within one of the UAE’s Jumeirah properties.

Candidates will need to have a strong academic background and will have been in a leadership role for the past 3-5 years. They will have to be prepared to travel and be mobile in international work locations.

In an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8 yesterday, Lawless explained why the hotel industry should be so attractive to UAE nationals.

“We would say that we are the future; our industry is very much the future and UAE nationals should be particularly proud of Jumeirah and of a brand like Jumeirah,” he said.

“In many ways we’ve followed in the footsteps, perhaps not to same size or scale, of Emirates Airlines, which helps to put Dubai on the map but importantly creates huge opportunities.”
