A hotel in Al Baha, Saudi Arabia, has been fined SR10,000 (US $2666) by authorities and is being shut down after a complaint was made against it on Twitter.
The Saudi Commission for Tourism & Antiquities (SCTA) levied the fine against the hotel for a number of violations, including the lack of operating license, bad hygiene and poor customer care services.
Action was taken against the facility a complaint was submitted by a citizen on the SCTA’s Twitter account - @sctasa.
The complaint was then referred to SCTA’s local branch in Al Baha, which made a surprise visit to the hotel and detected poor level of hygiene and “contempt for customer's remarks”, as well as a lack of an operation license.
It is now coordinating with other relevant authorities to shut down the unnamed hotel.
