The cabinet of the Bahrain government has approved a measure which aims to raise the minimum salary for Bahrainis working in hospitality to BD300 (US $796).
Bahrain’s Minister of Labour is to subsidise the salaries of Bahraini employees working in hotels and restaurants, according to a report on the latest cabinet meeting, released by the state-run Bahrain News Agency.
It said the project was approved by hotel and restaurant owners.
The Supreme Council for Vocational Training will bear the cost of the salary subsidy and vocational training for 24 months.
After that, the sector itself will bear the costs of the salary subsidy automatically and uninterruptedly.

Ministry of Labour under-secretary Sabah Al Dossary told the Gulf Daily News that the plan was in line with the ministry's BD30 million (US $79.6 million) National Employment Project (NEP), which aims to tackle unemployment through co-ordination between jobseekers and employers in the public and private sectors.
It was launched in June with the aim of helping 10,000 unemployed Bahrainis find jobs over the next two years.
