Travel website Tripadvisor is encouraging travellers to nominate hospitality employees who have improved their trip experience by delivering service they felt went above and beyond for a new award.

Its Exceptional Service Awards programme will recognise hospitality professionals at hotels, restaurants, and attractions around the world.

For now, only travellers from the UK and USA can submit nominations for the awards. They must visit the Tripadvisor website and entries must include the hospitality professional’s name, job title, and should be at least three sentences long, but no longer than 1,000 characters.

Winning hospitality professionals will receive a certificate and employers will be informed of the recognition. Winners will also be highlighted on the Tripadvisor site.

“Hospitality professionals can be the difference-maker between what makes a trip simply good or absolutely amazing, and TripAdvisor wants to help shine a spotlight on those who do it best,” said Tripadvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing.

“The Exceptional Service Awards are a way for our travelers to publicly recognise and celebrate hospitality professionals who went the extra mile to make guests feel special.”

Tripadvisor said it has introduced the awards programme after a survey in the US found that, while more than half of respondents said that they have received exceptional service several times over the past year, 67% didn’t think hospitality professionals receivec sufficient recognition for their efforts.
