Results from the first round of competition for S.Pellegrino Awards have pronounced Etihad Airways chef Sanjay Thakur and Radisson Blu Hotel Deira Creek chef de parties Rahil Rathod as two of the top 10 finalists for Middle East and Africa region.

More than 3000 young chefs worldwide submitted their application together with their signature dish to get a chance to participate to S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2015, the global scouting project to find the world’s best young chefs.

The applications were divided into 20 geographical regions , and finalist were selected by ALMA, an international educational and training centre for Italian Cuisine, on the basis of ingredients, skills, genius, beauty and message.

“It was a very hard task to select so few finalists from so many interesting proposals,” said ALMA general manager Andrea Sinigaglia. “Having the opportunity to analyse original recipes created by young chefs from all over the world was a thrilling experience, and an incredible demonstration of just how much talent and love for fine food it is possible to find everywhere in the globe”.

Alongside Thakur and Rathod, seven chefs from South Africa and one from Kuwait made the cut and will now compete at a local event in February, to be judged by the MEA jury panel members.

By the end of February, the 20 best local young chefs from each region will be announced as the official global finalists, who will then compete at the grand finale in June at Expo Milano 2015.
