Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company has partnered with Asian hospitality company Minor Hotel Group to build two hotels in Africa.

Minor has a portfolio of 126 hotels across 22 countries on five continents and now plans to expand with the introduction of two resorts in North Africa.

Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotel Group, said: “We are looking forward to a strong alliance with Qatari Diar going forward, with scope to explore additional opportunities to expand our portfolio in the wider MENA region.”

The first, Anantara Al Houara Tangier Resort in northern Morocco, is part of Qatari Diar’s Al Houara project, which spans 2.5km of beachfront in Tangier. The 230-key property will offer many restaurants and hotels, a spa, wellness and fitness centres. As part of the Al Houara project, the area will have an 18-hole golf course as well as residential homes for purchase.

The Anantara Tozeur Resort in southwest Tunisia is a smaller property with a luxury focus, offering 93 rooms and villas, including villas with pools. Tozeur, in southwest Tunisia, is famous with sci-fi fans all over the world, as it was the filming site of the first Star Wars films. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark as well as The English Patient were also shot in Tozeur.

Khaled Mohammed Al Sayed, group CEO of Qatari Diar, said: “We aim to create distinguished developments not only in Qatar but around the world and our partnership today with MHG, one of the largest hospitality and leisure companies in the Asia Pacific Region, goes in the same direction.”
