Nestled in the dunes near Rub Al Khali desert in Abu Dhabi, Tilal Liwa Hotel is the only property of its brand type of its kind in the Danat portfolio.

Hotelier caught up with GM Khaled Sharabassy, who discussed what it will take to move the property to its five-star goal.

Costing US $422 million, the expansion will include 100 more keys, a signature luxury spa and a new deluxe restaurant, which will serve either Turkish or Iranian cuisine.

Discussing the expansion, Sharabassy told Hotelier: “Tilal Liwa is currently a four-star property that offers five-star services: in the technology we use, in our online reputation management, our systems within the hotel, our housekeeping. So getting this restaurant and spa will bring our facilities up to the level of our service.”

In addition to the expansion of rooms, spa and restaurant, Sharabassy said that the supporting elements of becoming a five-star resort will also be reviewed, such as better staff accommodation and adding more staff to the property.

Sharabassy said that Tilal Liwa’s main market is German, but that the property will be focusing on an emerging market for them: Scandinavia, by adding more leisure facilities and appealing more to that market.
