Abdul Aziz of DWTC, Caterer Middle East's Chief Steward of the Year Abdul Aziz of DWTC, Caterer Middle East's Chief Steward of the Year

Steward of seven F&B outlets and the UAE’s largest stock of operating equipment, Caterer’s Chief Steward of the Year winner is Abdul Aziz of Dubai World Trade Centre.

Our chief steward of the year was unanimously selected by the judges for his ability to manage a team of 74 in a high-pressure work environment, and storing and maintaining the inventory control of UAE’s largest quantity of operating equipment. He has worked relentlessly for the same company for 21 years.

The Chief Steward of the Year award was presented by Ali K. Elyaderani, managing director of Merchant Star International, the exclusive distributor of Julius Meinl Coffee, which was one of the Caterer Awards sponsors.

Aziz consistently kept bringing his win back to his team, giving them credit for DWTC’s famed kitchen services.

Part of the reason he was chosen was the tireless way he works to motivate, encourage and praise his team over his 21 years. Aziz created the Star of the Month initiative in 2012, which was so successful that it has since been rolled out to all the F&B outlets at DWTC.

Commenting on his win, Aziz said: “I was surprised to win today, very happy and good. It’s not just a win for me but a win for the whole team too.”

Aziz also implemented and runs the ERP system for the inventory control for the massive amount of operating equipment – Aziz developed the system himself alongside DWTC’s IT department, and has successfully monitored the inventory, ensuring no theft or wastage occurs.

Highly Commended in this category is Joseph Tan, of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. Having joined the property just a year ago, Joseph has been instrumental in implementing a large-scale recycling programme for all F&B operations.
