Marriott International has launched its international campaign, Project Canvas, in the Middle East, to encourage food and beverage entrepreneurs to create home-grown brands in the region.

The campaign was launched at the JW Marriott Shenzhen in China, and Renaissance Phoenix Downtown in the US.

Project Canvas was launched at Nawwara at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, Dubai. Following presentations, two winners were chosen and given US $50,000 to implement their business plans at two of the hotel’s outlets in Dubai.

The winners were responsible for the creation and launch of new concepts for individual outlets.

The first concept by one of the entrepreneurs was revealed earlier this month. Named Square at Nawwara, the outlet is the first phase of the project that is transforming Nawwara into three new concepts.

The outlet offers local and international cuisine, and underground music influenced by Berlin’s club culture.

Marriott International Middle East senior director operations Markus Roeder said: “By working with local entrepreneurs we can marry the best talent with Marriott International resources, space and capital and transforming this into something guests and travellers will be able to enjoy and benefit from.

“This concept positions Marriott International as a facilitator of local talent and a platform for home-grown brands to shine in this region.”
