Director of business development and consulting at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM), John Fong has been elected as vice president of EuroCHRIE (European council on hotel, restaurant & institutional education).
EuroCHRIE is the academic body that represents almost 200 member institutions from more than 60 countries in Europe, the Mediterranean Basin and Africa. It is a federation of international CHRIE, the organisation that supports education and training for the hospitality and tourism industry.
Founded in 1946, CHRIE brings together educators from hospitality and tourism management schools and universities into a global network in close co-operation with industry representatives.
Fong will become president of EuroCHRIE in 2016 and then immediate past president in 2017. Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I consider it a privilege to serve on the EuroCHRIE Board and I am committed to working with hospitality and tourism educators and professionals to help shape the future of our industry.”
Fong is currently an associate professor of marketing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, a published author, an academic reviewer for journals and textbooks and a speaker — having conducted numerous seminars in Asia, Australia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
EAHM managing director Ron Hilvert said: “We are proud of Dr Fong’s prestigious appointment and this is yet another indicator of EAHM’s growing international standing.”
