The Indian Hotels Company Limited has appointed Farhat Jamal as senior vice president – operations in charge of Western India and Africa.

Jamal returns to the Taj Group after a stint with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, where he oversaw the group’s operations in India, as well as Sri Lanka and Maldives earlier on.

Jamal previously worked with Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces for close to three decades in various roles.

He served as vice president and general manager of The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai; general manager of Taj Land’s End, Mumbai; Vivanta by Taj – President, Mumbai Taj Coromandel, Chennai, and deputy general manager of St. James’ Court, A Taj Hotel, London and Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences, London.

He also served as president and chief operating officer for The Lalit Hotels, Palaces & Resorts in 2008.

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces is one of Asia’s largest group of hotels, comprising 131 hotels in 65 locations across India, Maldives, Malaysia, UK, USA, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Africa and the Middle East.

Earlier this year, the group opened its second property in Dubai, and has signed a third hotel in the city under the Vivanta brand.
